Thuy Pham
“ Hello, my name is Thuy and I am a junior at Hamilton College. I am majoring in Neuroscience and seeking to become a Physician Associate. A little background about me, I was born in Vietnam and moved to the States when I was eleven. Since then, I have lived in Southern California with my family. On campus, I am involved in a tap dancing club and ROOTS, an organization for students of color in STEM. In addition to these activities, I am also a big fan of k-dramas and contemporary romance reads!
I am glad to have been a part of the MUCC internship program as a student assistant. In this role, the main priority of my tasks lies in creating a storage inventory for preparation of the upcoming renovation. Through this internship, I was able to enhance my communication and organizational skills. It has been a pleasure working in this supportive and collaborative environment. Thank you to Renee for being such a huge help in guiding me. Aside from my role as a MUCC student assistant, I have also been a frequent volunteer of the MUCC Saturday tutoring program since my first year in college. From such experiences, my favorite part of the tutoring program is when the kids come onto the college campus and we’re able to show them around.
During my time here, I am amazed and how much of a resource MUCC is to the community of Utica. Their service expands beyond the tutoring of local students to fostering a community of learning to those of limited resources. Without a doubt, I am sure that MUCC will continue to serve its community as a safe place that fosters learning and community building. ”
Dehler Ingham
“Hi all! My name is Dehler and I’m currently interning at MUCC. I’m a literature and German double major at Hamilton College and have lived in Rhode Island, Oregon, Singapore, Germany, and now New York. I started at MUCC in 2023 and have since been helping Nurallah, the program manager.
Whether creating flyers and brochures, advertising programs and events on social media, overhauling attendance and sign-up systems, or providing hands on help during afterschool, MUCC has helped me develop crucial skills centered around administration, outreach, and community involvement.
MUCC’s office feels young, ambitious, and attentive; the environment I think internships benefit most from. My time so far has been fantastic and I can’t wait to see what the next few years at MUCC bring for me and the amazing communities here in Utica. ”
Caroline Boies
“Hi there!! My name is Caroline Boies, and I have been a part of the MUCC community for about a year and a half now. I am currently at Hamilton College pursuing a double major in math and art, and spend much of my free time playing in a band / listening to live music, writing with the school paper, and volunteering with a variety of organizations in and around the greater Hamilton community.
I first joined MUCC as a freshman, working with the after school and Saturday tutoring programs. This year I was lucky enough to take on the role of a grant research intern, where I help April and Nurallah research available grants, write donation requests, and much more. I am so grateful for this opportunity to learn under such great mentors, in support of such a great organization.
Utica is rich with diversity, culture, and an inspiring youth. I am excited to carry on with my work at MUCC and see the center and all of its members continue to thrive. ”
